Draw This Again: Red Dragon by LindseyWArt Draw This Again: Red Dragon by LindseyWArt

--

I decided to enter this month's deviantART challenge, Draw this Again, and even though I never end up winning I do enjoy doing it.

Prizes don't hurt either. :D

So yeah, I think I improved a little over the past 7 years. It's good to see that hard work does pay off.

Also, pink, yes I was feeling colorful. This piece was originally going to be black and white but I decided to randomly through pink on top and I just couldn't go back.

Sketches, work in progresses, and so on of this piece can be found on my Blogger and Facebook pages, so go check it out!

Anyways, thank you all for looking and I hope you all enjoy!

The first was epic. 2nd even more epic. The 2st looks like a picture of a dragon that suits a Scroll/Parchment etc

actually cool, but I do not understand why you did this red strange effect.. it takes a lot of quality away in my opinion

The quality isn't very good in this picture anyways, you should look at the bigger image: [link]

Anyways the reddish color was there imitate the crappy red overlay I did in the original image, just to more of an extreme which, even though you don't like it, I do.

interesting how you went from an anime style to a realistic style. I find myself doing that too, making it realistic is just so satisfying, even if it doesn't look as flamboyant as before.

Eh, I wouldn't really call it "style" but more of I lacked the skills to pull off what I could now. :/

The newer version may be more realistic, but I still love both. Such amazing skills! X3

Ha, I don't. :C

It's typical though, an artist is always their own worst critic.

Thank you very much anyways!

I wouldn't call this "improving". It's more accurately... "developing a completely new style out of scratch".
And tell you what, I love both.
The first because that would look SWEET tattooed on someones' back, for example. The second, because it looks more like a photo with filters.

I think he's right though, the new one looks more anatomically feasible and real, which is still an important part of fantasy art.

Yeah I could see what you are saying about different styles, but to me, 7 years ago, that type of realism was what I was trying to achieve without the knowledge or skill that I have today.

Personally I still think the first one sucks, because the anatomy is all over the place and it's pretty much unfinished. The popularity it has achieved still baffles me to this day.

The first one doesn't suck. Yes, I can see it would take a LOT less skill and technique to get to that point, but, it's one badass looking dragon, so people don't really care about anatomical accuracy.

But I see what you mean. What I mean is that, they're two opposite ends of the same line. So it looks like two completely different styles, the last one much more difficult than the first, but infinitely more... rewarding? (I'm not sure what word I'm looking for). That's how much you've improved.
